reason # 572 why my dad is awesome
it was a tough political season for me. a lot of my friends and family did not / do not agree with my politics, especially my support of Barack Obama. some see it as a moral failing, a spiritual area of blindness. that’s to be expected, since i grew up in a conservative evangelical environment. but some of it got a little personal. i’m not alone in this experience. my other friends have been hurt, have shed tears, have had painful conversations with people they love. my dad and i voted differently this year. i knew we would. i woke up the morning of November 5th with some less than pleasant items in my inbox. but then i got to this:
I hope you enjoyed being at the Obama speech last night. It was a great day in our country’s history, and you can always remember that you were there that night. While my candidate didn’t win, I truly believe that our country is going to be better going forward. While I may not support Obama’s social agenda, I do believe in his character, and that he will make wiser decisions than Bush has made, and make them for the right reasons. I am trusting that once he is in office, he will be more willing to make the tough choices and lead, regardless of how popular his decisions will be. I also believe that he will be a man of prayer, and seek God’s counsel, probably much more so than McCain would. God knows what He is doing!!!
I am proud of you for taking a stand for what you believe in.
Love always,
Dad
dad… you rule.
