reason # 572 why my dad is awesome
it was a tough political season for me. a lot of my friends and family did not / do not agree with my politics, especially my support of Barack Obama. some see it as a moral failing, a spiritual area of blindness. that’s to be expected, since i grew up in a conservative evangelical environment. but some of it got a little personal. i’m not alone in this experience. my other...

my thoughts today, courtesy of Ryan Adams
two hearts fading, like a flower and all this waiting, for the power for some answer, to this fire sinking slowly. the water’s higher desire with no secrets. no obsession. this time I’m speeding with no direction without a reason. what is this fire? burning slowly. my one and only desire you know me. you don’t mind waiting you just can’t show me, but God I’m praying that...
actual conversation from Friday night
Me: ummm, I think Dragan's giving me the eye
Crissa: me, too! the accordion Dragan, right?
Me: no, the other Dragan.

last Friday was one of those days when things don’t seem to go right. and people kept getting in the way of my plans for a normal day. first, the bus driver kept pulling over to avoid “bus bunching” even though i told her she was going to make me miss my train. the last train to work. clearly, she wasn’t stressing about my problem. so i ended up running in heels the...

all the weird way home
during my flight home from new york city last night, the following two things actually happened:
the flight attendant passed out mascara to all the ladies
i woke up to find the woman across the aisle from me, who was traveling alone, rubbing herself like a cat (seductively?) on the gentleman next to her. he didn’t seem to mind.
all this plus all the gourmet snacks you can eat make me...

have you ever had one of those weekends where you’re getting 1 am phone calls from 22-year old Irish med student kickboxers and think - what next? me neither, but i’m pretty sure that’s what this aardvark is thinking.
but seriously. what IS next? i need to figure that out. or maybe not figure it out and just do something. i think my problem is really the perfect storm of...

Robo-Howry 2000, etc.
unlike my college chemistry professor, who was convinced the government was trying to poison us with fluoride in our water, i’m not all that paranoid. i do have a couple of theories to throw out, though…
Cubs pitcher Bob Howry: actually a robot
MTV: no longer an actual entity - just a satellite beaming reruns of America’s Best Dance Crew
Those Luna carpet commercials: a plot...
so, yeah, uh... i went to Africa
i’ve hesitated to post anything about my 2 week trip to Kenya and Tanzania because people keep asking me “so, how was Africa?” and i can’t adequately sum it up. so, i guess that’s how Africa was - hard to sum up. beautiful. desolate. strange. harsh. inviting. dusty. lush. disorienting. welcoming. all these things and more. here are a few of the 1000 or so photos i...
Florida: a weekend in review
this past weekend i traveled to the land of my birth… Florida. the land of bad drivers, leathery skin and really good seafood. highlights included listening to a cover of Styx’s Come Sail Away while drunk women in sequined tank tops danced. good times. i feel that my words are inadequate, but the following images kinda sum it up.

femidoms?
i’m leaving Friday for 2 weeks in Africa. i’m only taking 1 carry on - that’s it - so packing has become art, science and obsession for me lately. i have 3 things left i think i need to buy: earplugs, luggage lock and a NY Times crossword puzzle book. i am already over-capacity, but i think i can make it work. so i was looking for some tips on the internet for what to pack...

things that don't go together: vol. 1
last night i learned that bikram yoga and persons with tourette’s syndrome do not mix well.
